MRS. BUNTIN handed out a thick notebook she described as “profile of Planning District 9”, an assessment of social resources and the need for the five counties to plan together.
The Board noted that although the District has not been officially chartered and represented, many organizations are referring to the area as a region. (A separate article tells how the Board chose to join the District, prompted by Fauquier County.)
“We lack a Welfare Board member,” said Mrs. Buntin. “I thought of putting an article in the paper explaining the function of a member but I haven’t yet dared.”
“We need a person of compassion and yet someone who will say no,” observed Newbill Miller, who suggested Tom Massie — who also got the nod from Betty Coates and J. R. Latham.
