WALTER E. COX, private auditor of the Rappahannock County books, told the Board that Federal Revenue Sharing money should arrive shortly, and Cox advised that the Board invest the money.
“No one seems to know what you can do and can’t do with the money,” said Cox. “There are supposed to be rulings from the Treasury Department.”
“We’ve got three or four organizations telling us how we can spend the money,” offered E. M. Jones, County Clerk.
Cox suggested that the money might be put into a school debt service fund, to offset the $50,000 annual debt service.
NEXT, THE Board heard two representatives of the Virginia Division of Forestry Department tell of Senate Bill 895, which is being promoted by railroaders who want to stop keeping railroad rights-of-way cleared of brush.
“We feel the number of forest fires would definitely increase,” said a forester.
“I can remember back in the drought,” mused Chairman Miller, “playing baseball in Boyce, and they had three railroad fires while we were playing ball, and they were keeping the rights-of-way cleared.”
The Board chose to support the Division of Forestry.
