The superintendent also noted that the BOCA building code, a national school safety code might cause school construction costs to jump 15 to 20%. Norton thought that some of the safety standards apply to high-rise buildings, standards which he thought might not apply to Rappahannock schools.
“I can’t find any losses of children’s lives by fire in schools the last 25 years,” said Norton.
“Will this apply to existing structures?” asked Newbill Miller.
