Winning foxhounds
RAPPAHANNOCK FOXHOUNDS made a notable showing during the field trials held at Onley in Accomack County December 6-9. The hound owners returned home with about 90% of the trophies from the trials and bench show. Two hounds owned by Misty Lynne Hitt of Woodville received awards in the trials, competing with a field of 141 with only 17 finishing. W. H. Lyne was also successful with a number of hounds capturing eight trophies. Misty’s two-year-old Red Oak Deacon won the derby class. He was first in speed and drive, hunting and endurance. Red Oak Gay was declared the champion in the field, taking first in the same three categories. This hound also won the all-age H.G.A.
Lyne’s Jumbo was first in hunting and third in H.G.A. while Bud placed sixth in derby male on the bench. Sweet Thing was fourth derby H.G.A., second derby hunting and first derby female on the bench.
Blue Bell, owned by Lyne, was first all age female and best opposite sex on the bench. Pale Face was best all age male while Spiffy was fourth derby female on the bench, second derby speed and drive and endurance and fifth in hunting. This hound was second H.G.A. and derby combination winner, to name some of them. □
