WHEN that tour was over, I didn’t think I’d ever walk again, but there was stilf lots to come.
At 5 p.m. we all went to our hotel, the Williamsburg Motor House, where our rooms were waiting. We cleaned up or watched TV or slept for one glorious half hour and then went to the cafeteria for dinner.
After dinner we went to the Information Center to see a movie, “The Gunsmith of Williamsburg.” It was an hour long and very interesting (it took 300 hours to make a good gun in colonial days!).
At 7:30 p.m. I went on a tour of the magazine (gun stockhold) and gaol (jail). There were several cells in the Gaol and the people who had been kept in them long ago must have frozen because the windows were open permanently. Brrrrr!
In the magazine there were almost 200 guns. One gun took two people to fire — one to hold it and the other to pull the trigger. After it was fired the one who held it had to pick up the one who shot it, the recoil was so great.
