THE FAMILY farm is still the top competitor in America’s agriculture. This was brought out by remarks of James S. Gillespie, Virginia State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) committee chairman.
Corporate farms operate less than one percent of all farms in the country, and two-thirds of these are really family farms. Most are incorporated to take advantage of tax structures and to aid in passing farm property to the next generation.:
