Deer kill is

fairly heavy

RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY had a fairly heavy deer kill along the foot of the Blue Ridge on the first day of the deer season Monday. Pressure was light away from the mountains. Three of the five game checking stations had reported a total of, 51 deer by. late afternoon, which is probably ahead of the previous kill for the first day.

The same three stations had reported five bear checked through last week and Monday. This compares to only one bear in all of last season. The highest bear take in Rappahannock was in 1971 when nine were bagged that season.

According to Game Warden Irvin L. Kenyon Jr., the small game hunters were too few to get any line on game numbers or hunter success.□.
