Commission member Pete Luke said it all was a question of where the “bottleneck” should be. He said if the Sperryville by-pass is built, the bottleneck would be in the national park, but if it’s not built and the road is just “improved” through Sperryville, the bottleneck would actually benefit Sperryville’s tourist business.
LUKE SAID THE PEOPLE of Rappahannock and Sperryville- want to keep the area rural. “There’s already enough roads going to the valley,” said Luke, “Route 211 just goes to Luray.”
Luke said the planned limited access by-pass would “cut the town apart” and “dry it up.” The Planning District Commission voted to support Luke, by recommending to the state to build Line A.D
