Up until now, most farmers who are storing acidtreated grain are storing it in buildings formerly used for other purposes. Because of limited structure strength, the grain is usually stored in shallow depths and no problem with moisture has been encountered. This type of storage for acid-treated grain has been about the only kind that competed with drying and metal bin storage from a cost standpoint, said Lambert.
As the cost of fuel increases relative to propionic-acetic acids, more interest will be expressed in grain perservatives. But don’t overlook the fact that an aeration system may be required even with high moisture acid treated grain in storage, the specialist said.D
