THE Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, Inc. has given its attorneys the green light to appeal to the Virginia Supreme Court a State Corporation Commission decision permitting giant new powerlines to be built across Rappahannock County.

The unfavorable SCC opinion, handed down last May, was received last Friday in Richmond by RLEP President Philip Irwin, who has led the three-year fight against Vepco. RLEP sought to preserve the countryside from the threat of environmental damage posed by the powerlines by requiring that they be built alongside Vepco facilities in existing corridors.
