THE CUT reduces state aid to Godwin said the cut was necessary because the economy has failed to improve as rapidly “as the forecasters said it would.” There have been prospects of a $60 million state budget deficit at the end of the 1974-76 biennium, hence Godwin’s “austerity program” for education as well as other state agencies and institutions.
“It is not a pleasant decision for me to make,” Governor Godwin said about the school aid cut. “But I think it is prudent and wise.”D
Homecoming
The annual Homecoming Day at Promise Land Baptist Church will be held Sunday, September 28. Speaker for the 11:30 a.m. service will be the Rev. Robert Pendleton of Flint Hill. After morning services, dinner will be served in the church dining room. The Rev. Carter Alsberry of Front Royal will conduct the afternoon services.
