A HUNTER, Robert Naismith of Fairfax, discovered a very large steel safe in a wooded area Friday while deer hunting in Flint Hill Estates. Also found were three cash drawers. The gray safe is about 4 1/2 feet tall and 2 feet wide. An attempt had been made to drill the lock to open it, but apparently that was unsuccessful so the bottom was blown out to gain its contents.
Trooper R. A. Baines was contacted by Naismith and the safe was recovered with the aid of Richard Settle and his wrecker from Flint Hill Garage. Some charred paper in the safe appeared to be deposit slips, from University National Bank in Maryland. Other contents of the safe was a number of meat thermometers and ash trays.
ANYONE having any information or knowing anything which may have a connection with the safe should contact Mr. Baines or Trooper J. A. Watson, who assited in the investigation. It was impossible to tell how long the safe had been there.
