As simple as that seems, it is apparently difficult for public officials, once they’re elected, to remember this basic! responsibility to the public. Since the public has entrusted them with the power to conduct the public’s business, you’d think it would be elementary that everyone concerned would want to make certain that that business is conducted in public. Not so. County Supervisors, especially, have a disturbing habit of wanting to retreat behind closed doors at every opportunity. Why? You tell us; we can’t imagine why, without skirting the boundaries of the libel laws.
