EVERYBODY who visits Little Washington lately has the same reaction: “How nice it looks!”
And they’re right. The town has really been spruced up, from one end to the other, and in little ways as well as large. The net result is truly pleasing, and reflects a redoubled sense of community pride that seems to have overtaken the town.
Not the least of the new spirit abroad in Washington is the proliferation . of handsome, quality shops and enterprises. Some oldtime craftspeople and stores have been joined by new enterprises featuring everything from sophisticated gourmet kitchen gadgets to antique clocks, from hand-made furniture to custom-designed and crafted kitchen cabinets, from handcrafts to lighting fixtures.
A handsome brochure sponsored by many of these shops and stores greets visitors, providing a handy street map (unchanged since the town was laid out in 1749 by George Washington), and a capsule history and description of the sightseeing and shopping opportunities available in this gem on the Northern Piedmont.
