ONE of the newest businesses in Rappahannock County is Charlie and Frances Eldred’s Washington House of Reproductions.
Located in the handsomely restored old mercantile building next to the old hotel on Main Street, between Middle and Calvert Streets, the Eldreds’ shop includes many handsome gift items, but the main feature is lighting fixtures—of all types, modern and traditional.
Charlie, who is an electrician, also plans to do custom designed fixtures for special applications, and he also specializes in wiring old houses and old lamps.
Re-doing old buildings of all types will be easy, Charlie laughs, after doing the mercantile shop where they are now located. He ran into every conceivable problem of restoration, even to having to extract corn cobs from the walls.
