AT FIRST, he and Frances had speculated that the corn cobs constituted some sort of Early American insulation, but later they learned that at one time the upstairs had been used for storing corn, and some filtered down through the walls over the years.
Frances, whose maiden name was Walker, left Rappahannock in 1956 to go to school, and she admits that she didn’t think at that time she?d ever move back.
But now she and Charlie both see a lot more opportunity in her native county, and they both enjoy the enlivened pace of activities and the new people that have moved in.
WEEKEND tourist traffic will provide a portion of their clientele, they say, but it is the new people who are doing over old houses and hull ding new ones in traditional “country” styles that they look to for the bulk of their business.
