A two-vehicle collision occurred December 31 on Route 618 to Red Oak Mountain. John Henry Woodward of Castleton in a 74 Ford struck a 72 Toyota driven by Stephen Day of Warrenton, according to Trooper R.A. Baines.

Bertha Jackson, 46, died Christmas Eve of gunshot wounds sustained earlier in the day at the residence which she shared with Edward Starks near Washington.
According to a report from Sheriff W. A. Buntin, the time of death was ascertained by Dr. G. A. Bendlage, Coroner, as being between 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. The wound was in the lower abdomen area.
Edward Starks has been charged with the shooting which is still under investigation. * „
