4-H Intermediate Congress

“My Three Spaces-My Space-My family-My Community Space” is the theme for the 1994 Intermediate 4-H Congress The Congress is open to youth ages 12 and 13 who have participated in a county, district, or state activity in the last year. Participants must be currently enrolled 4-H’ers for the Feb. 4-6 event.

Learning groups will include making a Dream Catcher, electricity, enjoying your parents, the ropes course, Beef Ambassador, consumerama, and learning about 4-H opportunities for the future. , Entertainment will include movies, games, dances and a pizza party.

The cost is $50 and applications are available in the Extension Office. Interested individuals may come by or call 675-3619.

LFCC Class at R.C.E.S.

Aerobic Fitness I (Course . PED103) is the next class in the Office Systems Technology Program (Administrative Assistance Specialization) offered by Lord Fairfax Communtiy College at the Rappahannock County Elementary School. The two credit class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursday, beginning Jan. 11 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The cost of the class is $88 ($44 per credit).

Red Cross Offers Courses

• The Fauquier Chapter of the American Red Cross is offering a Community First Aid Course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22. The course will cover rescue breathing, CPR, and how to clear an airway for infants, children, and adults. Preparing and responding to emergencies will also be covered. Cost of the course is $25.

On Jan. 6 the Chapter, will hold an Introduction to Disaster Services from 7-10 p.m. The purpose of this course is to provide basic information about disaster and its effects, and to outline the role of both government aqd non-government agencies in disaster relief.

The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board invites persons 60 years of age and older to participate in the following Health Promotion/Screening Programs to be held at the Rappahannock Senior Nutrition Center.

Blood Pressure Checks by Marion Sharp of Rappahannock County Health Department at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 12; How to read New Food Labels by FDA and USD A/Presented by Helen Smith of The Rappahannock Extension Office at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 24 and Denise Eastham of the Warren County Memorial Hospital-Health topic to be announced later at 1 p.m. on Jan. 26.

Language Tutor Traimfig

Literacy Volunteers of Fauquier County will host an English as a Second Language Tutor Training at its officed on Beckham at Culpeper next to the St. James Episcoapl Church (basement entrance to 65 Culpeper Street) Warrenton. from 6:30-9 p.m.] on Friday, Jan. 21, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22 and from ^ a.m -4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29.

The workshop will instruct in several techniques of teaching conversational English in a group setting or one-to-one, and will teach a tutor how to play lessons around a student’s self-designed goals.
