Because there are many court cases yet for Major Streapy to testify in, he will be in and out of the office between now and January 1 when Sheriff-elect Gary Settle begins his job.
Major Streapy said that he and John Henry Woodward began their jobs together as deputies under Sheriff Buntin. He recognized a lot of good traits in Deputy Woodward and encouraged him to run for sheriff when Sheriff Buntin retired. “He has shown me in the past 12 years that he is an honest, hard working and dedicated law enforcement administrator. He saw to it that the law was administered equally to all persons, and he never asked me to back off an investigation or to intensify one because of someone’s.social standing...I love him like a brother,” said Major Streapy.
One thing that Major Streapy says he would like to see in this county is a victims’ rights advocate. The position could be financed with grant money, he said.
He continued, “To the citizens of Rappahannock, I hope I did not disappoint you too much in the past 16 years. I always have tried to perform my job keeping in mind the trust and faith that you have placed in me. I hope I did not let you down. Now 1 am retiring to my Rappahannock County farm and grow the finest apples and peaches I can.”
