Canadian pianist Audrey Andrist will play works by Schubert, Chopin, Schumann and Barber at the Theatre at Washington, Va. on Saturday, April 5, in a concert beginning at 8 p.m. This will be Andrist’s third appearance in Little Washington, and will be the first of two classical piano recitals to be held at the Theatre this spring.
Audrey Andrist grew up on a farm in rural Saskatchewan and began her early musical training in Canada. From there she went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York, where she completed her masters and doctoral degrees. She was the first prize winner of the San Antonio International Competition, the Mozart International Competition, and the Juilliard Concerto Competition. Her many recent engagements include a concert tour of China, performances in Japan, and concerto appearances in California. Highlights of her 2007-2008 season include recitals at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.. as well as performances in Florida. Iowa, North Carolina, Virginia and Canada.
The program for the upcoming concert at the Theatre on April 5 includes Schubert's A Miyor Sonata (the “little" A major); a set of short pieces by Chopin (nocturne, waltz, mazurkas and an etude); Schumann's Fantasy, Op. 17; and Excursions, Op. 20. by Samuel Barber.
