Come to Clean
Streams Day!

This Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., come participate in Clean Streams Day activities at The Link at The SchoolHouse in Sperryville. This is your chance to learn what you can do to be one important part of reversing problems with our own waterways and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay. Many of you know that you can hike a short way beyond the peak of Mary’s Rocks trail to find the pristine headwater of the Thornton River. So, too, can you witness the devastation of years of unsafe practices in the now “dead zone” of the Bay, just a few hours away. This day at The Link offers you the opportunity to learn skills and information that will enable you to make changes and improvements in your own roads and yard to help reverse the trend.
Just one event in a series * of activities, Clean Streams Day will engage young and old alike in learning and in fun. Here is a bit of what awaits you:
• Your own front and back yard...find out what you can do to make them support wildlife and prevent runoff and erosion.
• What is a “Rain Garden?” Come look at one in progress and learn how you might consider one to filter pollutants from run off.
• Come learn the principles of a riparian buffer and observe the progress of a buffer zone in its infancy on the banks of the Thornton River.
