fumbled with the zipper, Trent, completely ignoring my frustration, turned his face up and smiled, saying, “It’s raining, Grammy! You love rain, don’t you?” I looked at his precious little face, covered with fine misty raindrops. “Yes, I do love rain, Trent!” “I love rain, too, Grammy,” he said, with a smile that reeked of pure contentment.

I turned up my face and smiled as well, feeling the cool moisture soak into my skin. And I remembered. Yes, I love rain — and stars and birds and flowers and trees. I love spiders and ladybugs. I love snow. I love box turtles and fireflies. I love the smell of the earth and how it feels in my hands. I love thinking about all the things I love and all the people I love and the God I love. Loving is a 24/7 occupation. It took the gentle observations of a three-year-old to remind me to take time to stop and smell the roses, to enjoy the rain again, and to thank God for this life I have been given. I hope there is a threeyear-old in your life to remind you to slow down and think of all the things you love.
