Saturday’s Thornton Hill Hounds Point-to-Point in Sperryville provided a pre-season look at this fall’s timber stakes division _ possibly all of it.
Carded since 2003 as a kickoff to Virginia’s busy autumn calendar, the Sept* 13 Thornton meet contended with an unseasonable swelter, and. though entries were good, late scratches left most of the races light.
The featured open timber. however, remained stalwart on the program, attracting a field of six. including two Gold Cup champs.
