fit Montpelier was purchased by William and MOW who upyrn^ and expanded the house hum 22 to 35 rooms. Dolley Madison* the former First £*ady had sold the house in 1844 to pay debts, and in the interim between the Madisons and the duPonts, the house had several owners each of whom would alter or add to the house as they saw fit
The house was deeded to the National Trust for Histone Preservation by Marion duPbnt Stott in 198$ and in 2000 the Montpelier Foundation began its stewed*)?*?
