After Jenkins died, investigators who’d arrived at the hospital obtained a warrant and searched Mason's cabin, where they found small amounts of heroin, methadone and marijuana, drug paraphernalia - and a semi-automatic handgun locked in a toolbox near his bed, according to testimony from Lt. J. C. Welch of the Sheriff s Office.
In his testimony, Mason did not deny having the handgun and the controlled substances, refuting only the charge of distributing heroin. In rendering the verdict. Judge Parker sum-. med up: “The court believes Teel is the more credible witness.” ■
Mason was returned to the county jail; Judge Parker set sentencing for March 8.
