In a closing address to a gathering of delegates
from across the state at Virginia Farm Bureau
Federation's (YFBF1 annual meeting in Richmond last Wednesday, government relations director Wilbur Stoneman asked anyone who supported the VFBF’s fight against a bill before Congress that would toughen regulations on fawners in the Chesapeake Bay watershed to stand. If anyone remained seated, it wasn’t apparent from the press area at the front of the Marriott ballroom, and you’d have to wonder what any who remained in their seats would have been doing there in the first place.
VFBF opposes the new regulations because they are potentially too expensive and will drive farmers out of business, and, two, since they halt any increase in the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus going into the bay. would put an end to any additional development in the watershed, be that development on the farm or off.
