.. . "Apple Tree Cottage,” as it is mm called by Mr. and Mrs. S. E. ■ Hening, is one of the old land* marks of Rappahannock county.' For 65 years it was the cobbler shop of Sperryville, operated by George Cooper and his son, Richard Cooper.
Constructed 100 years agS'^-or more—the original house vu a small log cabin, and was 'occupied by the Pulliams, Mrs. Jamebon, several tenants, and for yean the Coopers. The logs in the original section are hand-hewn chestnut. ••kr and the floors are ^oldfashioned pine. During the past 76 years two wings have been added until the hous.e now contains a : total of eight rooms, two large. chimneys, and three open fireplaces. , • '
Purchased by the Honings in. 1666, the place has been restored and modernised, within and without, pins some landscaping and new fences.
