It sounds funny to any ‘'Keep Virginia Green” now with alt the dry crispness of our mountains and fields, but so goes the work of God. iWe must care now for this dry, crisp state of ours, so when the sun begins to bring forth the buds and green leaves ■on the trees, with this dry leafy fire trap beneath, there will be no charred trunks and branches to mar their beauty.
What is more fearful than a blazing forest? cFlames climbing up the tree tops to leap to others, and so on until a large area fags been left, a mass of ashes, all . life gone? Little animals fleeing from their homes and feeding ^grounds, birds flying to safety, and people taking what posseseions they can carry and going from homes they have built., Yes, these are fearful. That is.'why we must be so careful about any fire . we may handle. Campfires, lighted matches and cigarettes must be extinguished before we leave them or throw them away.
It is not much trouble to throw a little dirt on a camp fire, or to. ffrind a match or cigarette out, •' with our heel. These three things ‘ •re what causa most forest .fires.
