Apples Being Purchased
For Lunch Program
Announcement was made this week that the U. S. Department bL- Agrieulfure will 'continue to purchase fresh apples in February for delivery to the School Lunch Program.
R- B. Bridgforth, Chairman of the State Committee of the Production and Marketing Administration .said that the January price of $1.81 per bushel container, f.o.b. shipping point, would continue to be in effect in February. He said that purchases will he limited to quantities necessary to fill delivery orders placed with the"^.iigiin.a Purchase representative.
Growers, growers’ agents, or associations of growers, interestid in offering apples for February delivery shall make their offeis in writing or by telephone not later than 5:00 p.m., on Monday, February 6, 1950, to J. Parker Lambeth, Jr., purchase representative, PM A State Office, boo Fast Main Street, Richmond, telephone 5CG2?.
Bridgforth said that there will ve no change ,n the varieties or '■ther specifications outlined in t oe Put chase Announcement of January 1950, and that shipments insofar as possible would t' made to schools and in -1 ,t utions in Viiginia.
