A good many years ago, Homo the Sap came in to this Valley. He had always lived by killing pack* rgts and seemed to be very lazy. But after a while he came to do more or less what other people in the Valley did, to try to raise some corn and beans. However, Homo the Sap was very lazy and he just scratched the ground a little and put in the corn and beans and if it came up, all right, and if it did* not all right. Homo didn’t know how old he was and he did not care. He was very onery. He was ignorant and mean. In fact he was about the meanest man I ever saw. I say he was mean because whenever he got into an argument and he couldn't win by arguing, he would get a club and his opponent had to watch out. Homo was so ignorant and mean *nd just plain no-account that I couldn’t bear him. I didn’t see any good in him for the longest time. But one day I saw a great commotion in the Valley that was to show that Homo, the Sap, had some go6d > in him. I went down Close, enough to see what was happening and it appeared that Homo •had lost some member of his family, perhaps an uncle, and they were burying bin*. And this was what the Sap was doing.
