I was vary curious to know what th« old man would do next, whether he would use the praetical method or the magical method or the scientific method. But be-i lieve it or not, Sap didn’t use any of these methods with this boy. No, he was learning different methods himself and so the Sap taught this fourth smart son with a brand new method of pack-rat hunting. You might call this the theoretical method. He used words this time. There were just a lot of words, long words and hard words. This was the most interests ing thing, iwhen one good word was found, two or more words were found for each other word' used in the education of this boy in pack-rat hunting. I was pretty skeptical of this method, as it didnot seem possible that this smart son would be smart enough or be able to hunt pack-rats after all these words. But he did do some hunting and catch some pack- rats, though he didn’t do nearly as well as the first boy or quite as well as some of the others. But he did really become very expert in the philosophy of pack-cat r/intingj Yes, he was the outstanding philosopher of pack-rat hunting in the family of Homo the Sap, after he had learned his lessons well.
These methods of education became more and more interesting to me and 1 waited with great interest and impatience for the education by Homo the Sap of the fifth son. TMs time they started with throwing sticks a little like the way the first son was taught but still very differently. I soon saw that they were keeping the old sticks and throwing all the newest ones away, and if one of the sticks was very old they would patch it up and make it better than it was before. Any new sticks were not considered good. The older the stick the better. They kept just hundred sticks.
