156th Annual Session
The 156th annual meeting of the Shiloh Baptist Association was very successful, from all accounts.
The “’Sociation” has various connotations in Rappahannock county, one outstanding being the traditional (though awkwardly phrased) “all day dinner on the grounds”! Modern tempo has not made this custom entirely obsolete, according to enthusiastic gourmets who attended the latest gathering at Reynolds Memorial Baptist church last Wednesday and Thursday in Sperryville; but there are occasional nostalgic (reminders that “It’s not like the old meetings when we fed everyone and his cousin for miles around.” Few of the good ladies even attempt to express regret; besides, what customs remain today that are not changed or changing?
The wistfulness in the following remark overheard might apply tq many other time-honored customs which, reluctantly, have become more streamlined: “The yorld| - seemed so safe wh 99 -we used JM* enjoy the old Associations.”
Shiloh Association is an organization made up of 41 Bapltisti churches from the counties of Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison, and part of Greene, with a membership of about 6500.
