Virginia Tomato Tested
In Southern States
A new tomato, developed at Virginia Experiment Station, is being tested in several southern states, and shows promise of being a producer of high quality, sblid-flesh-" ed fruit.
Horticulturist F. S. Andrews says the new variety, known as VPI No. 12, was developed by former Dean H. L. Price and Henry Huddleson, former greenhouse superintendent. It has been further developed and tested by the vegetable section at the Station.
It was introduced into the Southern Cooperative Trials in 1949, and will be studied further.
