So the new princess in England is going to wear hand-me-downs. That’s going to be a novelty to royalty, but most of us will be glad to explain to our English kin (only mine’s Scotch) some of the advantages and disadvantages of inheriting the clothes of the older members of the family.
There’s something very comforting in knowing that you do not have to be too careful about the latest acquired suit of clothes, since the patches and darns indicate that it does not merit prideful care. However, those same patches and darns will remind you to exercise care of another kind to prevent embarrassment. To give proper respect to the years of the clothing is a necessity or you may find yourself exposed to the elements in spots you would prefer to have covered.
