Just before the program was to begin, a dog-fight took place within fifteen feet of the platform. There were a few accusations, to the effect that it must have been planned, since the ladies had expressed a policy pending to rid the town of all the stray dogs roaming the streets. The visiting newspaper reporters and photographers enjoyed the good ftatured laugh that ran through the crowed when the sounds of the dog-fight rose into the quiet calm of the afternoon. | Photographers .and reporters were presented from Collier’s fnagatine, Life, and The Evening Star and The Washington Post. The Star carried pictures and an ■ . account of the ceremonies on Saturday, and The Post carried a fullpage spread in the Sunday edition. - It is thought that the Life picture^ story will probably appear;: in a couple of weeks and the Collier’s * story and pictures are scheduled for the first of October. ry

The Seventh District’s own Burr P. Harrison Was chairman of the program. He was in his usual good S spirits and saw to it that the crowd had as good a time as he always does. He cautioned everyone to notice his bravery in being up on the platform with all those ladies _but he emphasized that he was glad, he was not a weed in Washington, for he knew how determined a group of ladies could be when they set their heads. Congressman Harrison had some male associates on the platform, how ever, for besides the two ministers, and former Mayor W. P. Moffett, Jr., former Mayor W. E. Compton was on hand to give the welcome address.

Miss Catherine Falvey and Mrs. “ George H. Davis, Jr. did the honi ors of the day in the speech making. Miss Faivey drew her subject from the woman’s ability to serve in public office and Mrs. ' Davis cited woman’s duty and responsibility to do her part in government service. ‘ Miss Fahey, a native of Massachusetts, has served two terms in the legislature of her state, in addition at service in the armed forces, having been a major in the WAC.
