Conducts First Meeting

The ladies went to work Toes* day night with the first of their town council meetings.’

Mayor Mrs. George H. Davis, Jr., and the six members of the town council, Mrs. C. J. Miller, Mrs. J. W. Price, Mrs. J. W. Critzer, Miss Ruby Jenkins, Mrs. Milton, Hawkins, Jr., and Miss Elizabeth Racer, met in the Fire House September 5, at^tSO.

The waiver of notice and eonsent to meeting was reftd by the mayor and signed by all members. ' The date of the regular monthly meeting was set for the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 in the fire house. The September meeting will be held September 19, because the mayor and some of the members of the council will be a tending the mayor and council meeting at Virginia Beach on September 12.

Mrs. Louise M. Price was elected mayor pro-tem and Miss Ruby Jenkins, clerk. R. L. Brown, treasurer, was requested to attend the monthly meetings.

Mrs. Milton kwkins, Jr., was appointed on the street light committee. If anyone notices a street light out, please call Mrs. Hawkins, telephone 2711, not later than 10 o’clock.

A motion was made and.passed that B. M. Miller, Trial Justice, be asked to try all town cases.

Mrs. J. W. Critzer was appointed to select and purchase some stationery.

Other items were discussed and shelved until the regular meeting: having books audited and a budget set up for the town; stop signs placed at intersections leading on 211; request resident engineer of highway, department to meet with council to discuss streets and " weeds; painting bottom steps ih front of Courthouse to keep cars
