mia. v/. >«. Miner was appointed chairman of the street committee, With Mrs. J. W. Crit'zer and Mias Elizabeth Racer as members. This committee will investigate the possibility of hiring one person on a year-round job of hauling) trash, cleaning streets, and mowing grass and trimming weeds.
The council approved a project to do all possible to have the telephone toll charge removed from county phones. This was a project which had been approved by the Board of Supervisors early in the year and the council of the town of Washington voted their approve al. Washington, as the county seat, should be free of telephone toll charges to all the county citizens in order to do its part in serving the entire county.
V. H. Rossen, Rappahannock representative of the Northern Virginia Power company, appeared before the council, announcing that he was now in the county to serve the people when any trouble came concerning the electric service. The council, in a special meeting two weeks ago, had requested ef tiie power company that someone be placed in the . county to better serve the interests of local citizens in case of electricity being* shut off. Prior to this it was necessary to notify the headquarters in Luray and wait for a service man to get into the county.
All members of the council were present.

Children's Home Society

A letter has been received from the office of the Children’s Home Society in Richmond expressing appreciation for the generous response from the people of Rappahannock to its annual appeal on behalf of the homeless children of the State.
The total contributed to the 1950 budget to date is $159.76, compared to $126 last year.
The liberal gifts from the several Sunday Schools of the county were greatly appreciated. They were: Amissville Methodist Sunday -School, $5; Amissville Baptist, $20.26; Sperryville Baptist, $10; Sperryville Methodist, $5; Assembly of God, $5.
Mrs. S. E. Hening, county chairman, desires to thank all of those who responded to the appeal this year and thus made possible such a gratifying record in the interest of boys and girls whose lives are made happy by the wholesome care of the Children’s Home Society.
