Invitations Extended To
Highway Conference
Invitations to the fourth annual Virginia Highway Conference are extended this week to a number of Rappahannock county officials.
The annual road meet will be held October 12-13 at the Vir-' ginia Military Institute in Lexington. It is jointly sponsored by the State Highway Department) and VMI’s department of civil engineering.
Invitations were mailed this week to county supervisors, county engineers and county surveyors' throughout the State. Also invited were State, town and city officials, road-building contractors, Federal road officials, State highway engineers, planning boards and highway safety officials.
More than 600 are expected to participate in a program which will include talks by Virginia Senators Harry F. Byrd, and A. Willis Robertson, Governor John S. Battle, Mississippi Senator J. C. Stennis, General Lewis Andrew Pick, chief of the Army Engineers, and General Phillip B. Fleming, chairman of the President's highway safety conference.
Of particular interest to county officials will be a group meeting Thursday afternoon, October 13, devoted to secondary highway, problems. Leading the panel discussion at this session will be Tazewell Ellett, Henrico county engineer, W. S. Price, of the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads, and en— gineers from the State Highway Department.
Other panel sessions will be devoted to highway safety and to road problems of the municipalities.
