The lady from Flint Hill, who took a tumble weefc-before-last and didn’t break the eggs she was carrying, says the News is sorely at fault and guilty of inaccurate reporting. She was not coming from the store, she was returning from her neighbor’s home; she did not have the eggs in a sack, they were in a woven basket. Here the inaccurate reporting ends. She did fall—how well she knows that —and she didn’t break a single egg in the basket. She also admits the county paper was correct in saying she felt as if a ton o’ bricks had hit her. True, there was the hen-fruit, intact, but she was plenty bruised up by the fall.

A charming story comes from our neighboring county of Madi-< son about a youngster and his first day of school. When the parents went to awaken the 6-yearold man of the household on the first morning of school, they found his bedroom empty. A general alarm was spread. “Yeah,” said a neighbor, “he went by here about 5 o’clock this morning. I trfed to get him to go home, but he said he was going to school and couldn’t talk him out of it.”
One of Rappahannock’s young scohlars was not so enthusiastic. In the afternoon following his third day in the halls of learning he informed his parents that he w’as not returning to school for the fourth day. The parents finally extracted the reason; “Teacher says we’re going to read tomorrow, and you know I can’t read. Ain’t no use in my going.”
Some years ago a parent told this story of the family’s 6-yearold pride and joy at the end of hi9 first day in school “Little does the teacher realize it, but today Sammy payed that school the highest compliment it’s ever received; he said he didn’t think he learned it all today, he’d better go back tomorrow.”
