2,500 Attend Opening
Of Va. Baptist Home
Over 2500 people were in attendance last Friday, October 27, for dedication ceremonies at the Virginia Baptist Home for Aged at Culpeper, about three miles south of the town on Route 15.
Thirty more residents are ex-, pected within the next ten days to join the 55 already “at home.” Twelve residents are in the town of Culpeper at a home on North Main street converted for such use some time ago.
The four-story Home, with (wings at each end, will accommodate about 100 residents • at present, with a staff of 22. When completed, the entire plant is expected to cost more than a million dollars. Building of the present three wings took about 15 months.
Judge Et E. Johnson described the home as "a lasting monument to the Baptists of this generation,” at the ceremonies Friday. Formal acceptance of thd* home was by James R. Bryant, secretary of the Virginia Baptist Association, -on ■behalf of 336,600 Virginia Baptists. Dr. J. T. Edwards, superin - tnedent of the Home, was present. - Funds for the building were contributed by Baptist churches and friends of the churches from all over the state, and construction has been on the “pay-as-yougo” plan.
