Fir*! Birthday

This to the first birthday anniversary of Rappahannock News. The first issue of Rappahannock’s own county newspaper was published just a year ago—November 8, 1949. , The top of the first pAge bears the notation: Vol. II—No. 1. All publications denote years in this same fashion; a year is designated by the volume number and the issue number follows. Last week was Volume 1, No.' 82, since there are '52 weeks in a year.

The printers at Rappahannock News office have had as pleasant a first year as was ever known 1 ' We’ve made new friends and found out what iwe already knew before we ever came to Rappahannock: the finest people in the world live in the county.

More kindnesses ,have been shown than would have, been thought possible—and more than could be numbered. Many pieces of what might have been considered “good luck” turned out to be favors that had been done for the paper by friends, and they didn’t want to have credit for the help given, nor did they want especial thanks. We know that many kind deeds and helps thrown the way of the new paper have never been known by the printers.

The printers have worked—all printers do—but the pleasant associations and the fine friends we have made in* the county during this first year have made the time fly by on wings. It has been the shortest and happiest year we have Iver known. . ..This is„an expression of „thank* from the printers of your county paper: thanks to all the people who have made our year so happy and successful; and thanks to the folks who have supported the county paper and been so loyal to it.
