Virginia farmers cut and set ‘about 10,000,000 fence posts each . y**r. ' That’s the estimate frbm J. W. O’Byrne, Extension forester at VPI, who says that the total number of fence posts figures out to be between 45 and 50 posts per farm, and accounts for about a week of each'farmer’s time. - Much of this time, he points out, is spent repairing and rebuilding fences, and much expense goes to replace rotting posts. A. well-built wire fence will last 20 to 25 years. If the posts can be made to last that long, both cash outlay and labor will be saved.
