That’s the advice from Fred Dreilinfer, associate horticulturist at VPI, who says that picking apples is a specialized job, and one that becomes easier when the right techniques are used.
There is no work in the orchard which requires as much direction as does picking, Dreiling says.
His suggestion to orchardistsi is that they show each picker the proper picking methods. “We can often raise a fine crop of apples only to lose the returns in improper harvesting practices.”
