Battle's «3-H* Club
In the pleasant shade, surrounded by friends, Governor. Battle took occasion Saturday at.. the Byrd Picnic to suggest a new club.. “We all know of the 4-H club,” - joked the Governor, “and now’s time for the 3-H club, ‘Hurry Harry Home’.” He thought the i people knew, he said, which Harry he meant.-- --
It would be agood procedure, it seems to me, if we really want to teach a good lesson in democracy, to bring a herd of followers if communism—and any other enslaving ’ism—to attendance at one of Byrd’s picnics. There in the shade of his own trees, standing on one of his own trucks, he speaks his mind, freely, afraid of no one. (Of course, it hasn’t been been conspicuous that he seems intimidated elsewhere, —either!) It would be a lesson to those freak supporters of ’isms to know that a man can still say what he thinks, and a crowd of his friends can stand and listen to him, free as the air, and knowing no fear that some gestapo^ of one form or another may 'grab him at any minute.
