tersection at a rate of speed that would not be safe even if the ear were going forward. : On several other occasions, always at night, I have witnessed cars racing down Main Street in Washington, and the danger to all citizens—either riding or walking —was alarming.
1 know tha( Trooper Buntin is one man and has the highways of the entire county to patrol. He can’t be everywhere at once. These reckless drivers, also, can know where the Troper is and can avoid being seen by him. Sheriff Critzer is one officer for the entire county, and 2<17 square miles of territory is right much to haw to cover and be in the exact spot at the exact time to apprehend these reckless drivers.
There was a time when a town officer could foe of help, but there are only two now, the Sheriff and the Trooper, to do it alL It is most commendable that they are willing to take on extra responsibility and feel acutely their duties and responsibilities.
If they can apprehend a few of these reckless drivers and give the harsh reprimands that they need, perhaps it will be more nearly safe to send children to the movies without escort. At present, however, it is extremely dangerous, and some of us fear that a child may be killed before it can be stopped.
