The conservation of toil, water, forests, and all natural resouroes la one of the subjects that should be uppermost in the minds of everyone. In order that the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia may became mone conscious of the importance of conserving our natural resources, the governor has proclaimed the week of October 21 as “Natural 'Resources Conservation Week.” Governor Battle specifically requested that a week each year be set aside to recognise the importance j»f conserration. ....
The counties of the Culpeper , . Boil Conservation District ere.'planning a rather extensive pro- ' gram for Conservation Weak. Many of the ministers will open the festivities by delivering conservation sermons on Sunday, October 21. Posters will bo devol- - oped around some phase of conservation, soil and water, wildlife or forestry. Prizes will be awarded - to county winners at the “Natural Resouroes Conservation Wjeek” banquet to be held in the Culpeper * County High School on Tuesday, October 23.
Numerous dignities have bean invited to‘the banquet including *•' both Senators from Virginia, the Governor and several Represent* stives from Northern Virginia. , The banquet will climax a day of Soil and Water Conservation tours including the farm of L. W. Kipps, Madison County. Mr. Kipps - . has been farming the conservationway for 13 years and states that he never intends to change back to the old “out of date” methods r.: that he previously followed.
The theatres have kindly con-" sented to show short conservation films along with their regular feature during “Natural Resources Conservation Week".
It is the wish of the Governor of Virginia and of every member ( of the various Soil Conservation District Board of Supervisors that Conservation Week will call to the attention of everyone, regardless of heir endeavor in life, the vital imp&rtance of conserving all nat- * ural resources and particularilly our soil and rainfall. Conservation is not only the job of the American fanner but it is everybody’s job who consumes food and fiber.
