Where <we all realize that one week’s concentration on fire prevention is not what is needed, but 62 weeks of the year, yet we all j ‘ acknowledge it is good to jog our memories with a National Fire Prevention Week.
This past dry summer has made most of us. more acutelly aware* of the dangers of lire than we ■would be ordinarily. With water so dear, there is doubt that sufficient water would be available to ~ fight a fire if it were started. The fwoods are tinder-dry, and a-small breeze could fan a spark into a major fire in a few minutes.
Being over-cautious now is sensible. It is safest now to bo a ' fanatic about fire. Regardless of how small the chance may be of starting a fire, use precautons as - if the fire had already started,
Don’t hesitate to call the firemen, even if the fire seems very * small. They would much rather ’ be called out to find that the fere was already extinguished than to have you wait until the fire had a good headway beforelhey could~ begin fighting.
