In Fire Prevention
KEEP VIRGINIA GREEN forestry training has just been completed in Rappahannock County high school at Washington and Scrabble colored school, Chief Forest Warden Raymond M. Johnson stated today.
Approximately 40 boys received forestry training this year. This short forestry training course consisted of forest fire prevention, forest fire suppression and forest management.
Chief Johnson said that this annual fall event was given early this year due to the dry weather throughout the county. Along with the fire fighting, the boys also received general forestry training in reforestation, proper cutting practices, and timber estimating.
Assisting in training of KVG crews this year was forester Caleb M. Pennock, Jr. of Warrenton. Forester Pennock handled the general forestry work.
Acknowledgement of the fine cooperation given the Virginia Forest Service in this training should go to the high school principals and other authorities, stated Chief Warden Johnson. He also reminds the eitiaens of the county to remember that'due to the extreme dry weather the danger of forest fires is very great at this time. Everyone should be particularly careful when burning brash or smoking dose to woods or fields containing dry grass.
