Jenkins Hollow
Colony Grows
A new addition to the growing colony in Jenkins Hollow is Mr. John Hier, an official of the Federal Trade Commission in Washington. .•
Mr. and Mrs. Hier have bought from S. E. Hening, the cottage and 19 acres of land formerly owned by George Jenkins. The cottage has been completely remedied and modernized with electricity, bath, oil heater,sanded floors, new paint, etc. A new entrance to the grounds leads in from highway No. 600, passes in front of the house and out at a higher level to the highway. Bridges have been placed over the several streams and a new water ' system installed on the hill to the rear of the house, with spring water running to the house by gravity. The log guest house has also been restored and a daylight basement *with concrete floor built under the main portion of the cottage.
Because of the location and setting, the place has been named “Peaceful Valley.” In addition to the construction of a power line, which supplies electricity to the homes in Jenkins Hollow, the state highway department has opened up and improved a short cut to 'Virginia highway 231 and greatly improved highway 600 both from Sperryville and the F. T. Valley.
Mr. and Mrs. Hier have taken possession of their new summer and week-end homeandare planning further extensive improvements, including landscaping, planting of shrubs, etc.
The Jenkins Hollow colony now includes seven families, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Pillar of Norfolk, Mr. and Mrs. Vaclav Racin, Mr. and
