Removal of the fourth grade to ? Sperryville will help make room for the additional 60 high school students expected to enter high school next year. Grades one, two, and three will be left at Washington unless additional changes are necessary.
AH present teachers of the ’5152 session .were re-appointed, which means that contracts will be mailed out, but until each teacher signs and returns the contract, it will not be known which ' ones will return for the school session of 1952~53.
The high school next year has been notified that it must offer 30 credits in order to maintain its accredited rating. The present offering is 29, so one more must be added for next year. -Predictions are to the effect that by the session 1958-54 several more academic credits must be added as* well as two additional credits in liberal arts. The comment of the school authoriti#* on these future additions is *tae*U cross those bridges when we get to them.” Among the problems at hand for next year are providing apace and classes for the pupils expected to enroll. ;
Gilbert Gibson Wborton
Gilbert Gibson Whorton, 72, died Fttday at University Hospital at Charlottesville, where he had been a patient, for the past six weeks.
The deceased was a native of Rappahannock County. He was the son of the late Byrd and Nancy Whorton of Rappahannock, born September 23, 1880.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mamie Fmcham Whorton and two sons, at home, Gibson and Billy and four daughters, Mrs. Irvin Sisk of Washington, Mrs. L. E. Frazier of Fairfax, Mrs. R. M. Brown of Sperryville, and Mrs. William Groves at home, also five grandchildren.
Mr. Whorton had three brothers and three sisters, Bryant Whorton of Washington, Frank Whorton of Culpeper, Shelby Whorton of/ Marion Mrs. Ira Fincham of Washington, Mrs. O. Grimsley and Miss Maude > Whorton of Castleton.
Rev. 'Borman Fiythe conducted graveside service at the Masonic Cemetery at Washington, Sunday afternoon at 2:30.
